Activating a licence takes one key and one click; moving it to a new computer means deactivating the old device first so a seat is free for the new one. Copying the licence file across instead of doing this properly doesn't work — BulkyGen ties activation to the specific machine, not just the file.
Activating for the first time
After buying a licence, you'll have a licence key from your account on the website. In the app, open the Licensing screen and find Activate a license. Enter the key and click Activate this device. Once activated, the screen shows your plan, expiry (if any), and how many of your plan's device slots are in use.
Device limits, in plain terms
Each plan allows a fixed number of devices active at once — the exact number depends on your plan; see pricing for current limits per plan. Activating on a device beyond your limit is refused with a list of which machines are already using a seat, so you can deactivate one from there if needed.
Moving to a new computer, the right way
- On the old machine, open the Licensing screen and click Deactivate this device. This releases that seat back to your licence.
- On the new machine, install BulkyGen, open the Licensing screen, and activate with the same key.
If the old machine is unavailable — lost, wiped, or otherwise unreachable — deactivate that device from your account dashboard on the website instead, then activate the new one as normal.
Why copying the licence file doesn't work
BulkyGen binds an activation to a hardware identifier on the specific machine it was activated on. Copying the license file to a second computer doesn't clone a working activation — the new machine's hardware identifier won't match, and it will show as needing reactivation rather than as licensed. Deactivate-then-activate is the supported path, not a workaround.
"Needs reactivation" after a Windows reinstall
Reinstalling Windows changes the hardware fingerprint BulkyGen checks against, even on the same physical machine — so after a clean reinstall, the app will show this device as needing reactivation. This isn't a lost licence; simply activate again with your existing key. If that would put you over your device limit because the old installation's seat is still marked active, deactivate it from your account dashboard first.
If you're stuck
Every plan allows resetting all devices on a licence once per 24 hours from your account dashboard — useful if a device is unreachable and you need the seat back immediately rather than waiting to sort it out machine by machine. See pricing for what's included on your plan, or the FAQ on the pricing page for licensing details.
